Further to this the British Medical Association indicates that it is à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“not sufficient to simply tell the patient to seek views elsewhereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚  (BMA 2013) and as such it may have been more practical for Dr Jenkins to aid Samantha in arranging to see another named doctor. Dr Jenkins also deferred any referral process by asking Samantha to return in a week which could be construed as a further contradiction to the GMC guidelines which state that à ¢Ã ¢â€š ¬Ã…“arrangements should be made without delayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚  (GMC, 2013). During this consultation there was the potential to cause a level of undue stress to Samantha. She had approached Dr Jenkins for advice and left the consultation with no measures put in place to assist her. Although Dr Jenkins may have not construed her actions as undue stress and may have felt that asking Samantha to come back would allow her additional time to process her decision. Dr Jenkins did note that she appeared to have very limited support but advised Samantha to come back with her mother whom she had already noted would not approve. Whilst it is recognised that a level of support is required both before and after an abortion, Dr Jenkins should have also recognised that support can be given from whoever the patient feels comfortable with (GMC, 2013), giving consideration for both safeguarding issues and family dynamics within a given situation. The GMC sets out guidance for the advice and treatment of an abortion to those aged under 16 years without parental knowledge or consent (GMC, 2013). In the case of Samantha although she has not been provided with all the relevant information regarding an abortion it is reasonable to assume that she would be able to understand the risks and possible side effects of the procedure as she has already been deemed a competent minor (BMA, 2014) by Dr Jenkins. She has also been advised to speak to her parents although it may also be in her best interest to receive advice and treatment without fulfilling this criteria. Regardless of age, minors who can be deemed competent have the right to make choices regarding their health including their sexual health (Department of Health, 2004). Case law has been laid down most notable by Gillick (1986) and most recently by Axon (2006) which strengthens the argument for competent minors to be treated as autonomous individuals. It is important to note that as a doctor you do have the right to have your own personal beliefs as having true integrity is fundamental in your role (BMA, 2014). A doctors beliefs to having a conscientious objection to abortions must not however impact on the medical advice and treatment given to the patient (GMC, 2014). Whilst there is a conscientious objection clause in Section 4 of the Abortion Act (1967) for refusal of participation past case law (Janaway, 1989 and Doogan Wood, 2014) have questioned what the meaning of the words à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“participateà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚  and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“treatmentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚  actually mean. The result of the case of Janaway infers that GPs cannot reasonably claim exemption for putting in place any necessary processes or providing advice to women who wish to undergo a termination. With the result from Doogan and Wood inferring that the scope of the word à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“treatmentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚  is defined as direct involvement rather than the broad scope of any involvement. Conscientious objections m ust therefore not impinge upon the reproductive rights of women. Indicate what you would have done/recommend and why. Provide reasons to support your position. From the evidence presented I would not have acted in the same way as Dr Jenkins during this consultation. Although Samantha has been deemed a competent young woman, vulnerability associated with such a young age should always be remembered. I would initially ask her why she would be reluctant to visit a male GP and explain that he would be able to assist her fully regardless of his gender. If she still wished to see a female GP I would regardless of my own personal beliefs speak through all the relevant information regarding abortion including any risks and side effects with her and made sure that she had further information to take away. I would also ensure that Samantha was referred to a named individual who could provide further advice. My conscientious objection to abortion should not stop me from providing information and referral for abortion as I am neither participating nor being directly involved in the termination. I would then explain that as her GP I would be there for all her other healthcare needs. I would have further discussed any other support networks that she may have other than simply parental support and I would have ensured that she left with a plan of where her situation was going and what help we as healthcare professionals could provide her with. By doing this I feel I would have fulfilled the criteria set out by the GMC in relation to both conscientious objections and abortion advice in under 16s. References: Abortion Act 1967. Conclusion To Death Of A Salesman Essay In the play, Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller, Linda Lomans character is viewed differently by many people. Some critics have seen Linda as a controlling mother figure who is actually the one to blame for this failure of both her sons and her husband. In this report I will defend this view citing specific examples from the play. Linda was undoubtedly the only one in control throughout the play. I believe that Linda tried to be a good mother and wife but she did not really know what she was doing. At the very beginning of the book we see that Willy, on his way to Boston, has come home because he was unable to concentrate on the road. And just as he was beginning to figure out why, she took his mind off the subject by suggesting that the problem was with the cars steering and not with him. Oh. Maybe its the steering again. I dont think Angelo knows the Studebaker.. And again: Maybe its your glasses. You never went for your new glasses.. By repeatedly doing this throughout the play Linda keeps Willy from facing the truth about himself. Also Linda gives Willy undeserved compliments, agreeing with him on his looks and ambition.; meanwhile, he has no true ambition. This causes Willy to build himself up into a great man. Another example of this is when Willy goes to see Howard Wagner about getting a job at home or at least close to home. While we realize how unlikely it is that Wi lly will get his wish, Willy does not realize this and Linda, who I believe is smart enough to realize it, supports Willy in excitement. Willy isnt the only one that Linda has affected. There is also Biff and Happy. Willy had taught Biff and Happy that if you were handsome, opportunity would come to you. Now while that doesnt have anything to do with Linda, she never challenged what Willy taught them; she simply agreed with everything that Willy said. Linda is able to manipulate Willy, by making his ideas seem greater by giving them her full support. An example of this, similar to what happened with Willy and Howard Wagner, is when Biff goes to see Bill Oliver about a job. The two of them have not seen each other in twenty years and when they did know each other Bill Oliver did not know Biff too well. Despite this, Willy thought Bill would recognize Biff and offer him a job on the spot. Hearing this Linda did not challenge Willy; she actually tried to quietly support him even though I felt she knew Biff would not be successful. During the majority of the play Linda hides her true self and contently agrees with Willy on most subjects. This makes it difficult to figure out what she is really thinking. Toward the end when Biff and Happy come home after leaving Willy at the restaurant, Linda drops her false personality and shows how she really feels. She explodes at her two sons for leaving their father alone at the restaurant during one of his fantasies. She places all blame on the two of them for Willy becoming the way he is. In actuality, it is Lindas own fault that Willy has become what he is. She has compounded this by also causing her two sons to turn out the way they did. In this report, I have defended the belief that Linda is a controlling mother figure who is actually the one to blame for the failure of her sons and of her husband. The following essay has been made for explaining about an ethical dilemma or issue that I had to faced during my last year project work. I would explain the story of ethical dilemma and then critically evaluate it on the ethical theory of Teleology, Consequentialism, and Deontology. Description of the Ethical issue Description of the issue: I had to work in a group project last year and it weighted a considerable portion of marks for the semester. The team was formed depending upon the topic that we wanted to work on. A team of 7 members were formed and it was decided that we would select a team leader for the project. One of the members was selected as the team leader based on the voting process. Involved person: The team leader and her friends were the involved person who did discrimination with me and my friends. Location of the situation: The situation took place at my university last year while doing project operations. Explanation of the situation: The team leader was assigned the responsibility of dividing the work among team members based on their skill and interest. It was fair enough to divide the major hard works of the project among two or three members and easy and simple task to an individual. However, when we went to talk to the team leader, she told us that she has already divided the work among her friend of the team and we should just stay away from the major works. She told us that her friends were more capable for doing all the important works than us. Conflicted and violated values and norms: The ethical issue that I had to face during my last years project was discrimination in allocation and distribution of work. The discrimination among team and biased decisions are very unfruitful, unfair and unethical for the person suffering due to the discrimination. Description of thoughts and feelings: It was very biased decisions as the work done by us would carry high amount of credits and if we would not do any major work, we would be scored low. Her discrimination would have ultimately led to prove fatal for us, if we would not have taken any step. Description of what I did: Since the project was an important one and it would help in our future researches and projects, me and two of my friends had been very excited and decided to talk to the team leader for starting the project early on. We tried to convince her that we needed some part of the major work and we would do it without any problem. She can trust us for the work we wanted to complete in given time. However, all our requests were going in vain. Finally we stood up against her and talked to our teacher for letting me and two of my friends do another project alone. The explanation of the issues on the basis of the mentioned three ethical theories are provided below, Evaluation of the ethical dilemma on Teleology theory: The teleology is an ethical theory that deals with the concept of what is seek at the end (Berker 2013). The teleology is the study of the final outcomes of any situation or activity. For example: the final goal of the seed is to become a grown plant/tree. According to Perner and Esken (2015), the theory explains the responsibilities that would be helpful for the attenuation of the goals. The ethical dilemma had shown that the team leader had not followed the teleology theory and distributed the work in a biased way. Her work division was unethical and she had not followed her ultimate goal of successful unbiased distribution of the work among all team members. My friend and I had followed the teleology theory and anyhow completed the new project within the stipulated time for achieving our final goal of working for the project completion. Evaluation of the ethical dilemma on Consequentialism theory: According to Sverdlik (2016), the consequentialism theory is also similar to the teleology theory and it depicts the final outcome for any activity. The morality of the action is evaluated on the basis of the outcome from the activity. The consequentialism theory is largely dependent on the actions of the people and it analyzes the final result and affect of the activities (Goldman 2015). The ethical dilemma and the case scenario have shown that the unfair distribution of the work had resulted in bad effect on us. We had to face problem for getting marks in final exam. The issue had discussed the abiding of non consequentialism theory by the team leader. We had tried to make her understand the issues we would have to face due to her activities. However, we had finally done what was right and made a separate project for us. Our activity for making a separate project was abiding the theory of consequentialism. Evaluation of the ethical dilemma on Deontology theory: Deontology is the ethical theory that explains the obligation and duty of an individual (Thomas 2015). The morality of the action based rules and duty had been useful for the deciding of the activity to be morally appropriate or not. The team leader had been avoiding the Deontology theory of working properly for distribution of the work among team members. We had done what was right and submitted another project separately for getting our deserving marks. The deontology theory had been followed by us for doing what is right Reflection I had to face the ethical issue of discrimination in work division in project at the university that would have lead to attaining of low scores in the semester. The theory of consequentialism had been helpful for making me happy with my decision. Consequentialism theory explains that our actions should be morally appropriate and the outcome should not hurt anyone. We at first had tried to make our team leader understand the importance of project and she should make us involved in the project too. However, after failing in that, we made our own project and it resulted in assisting us to get good marks for the project. None of the theory mentioned above (Teleology, Consequentialism, and Deontology) had made me unhappy with my decision. The reason behind it is that whatever I did was ethically appropriate and it was for the best. We had tried to convince her to make us an integral part of the project. However, she unethically sidelined us and kept the favor to her friends. It was unfaithful and inappropriate to do. Hence, my friends and I had done a separate project by ourselves. None of our actions were unethical or bad. If I would face any situation like this again, I would opt for doing the same thing again. At first I would try to make the team leader understand the situation from our perspective and point of view. If she/he would understand our problem, I would not have to do anything like that again. However, if the scenario would be like that, I would definitely do the same thing with the consent of the teacher. Conclusion I would like to conclude my assignment with highlighting the importance of being ethically correct and appropriate. The main benefit of being ethically and morally right in a project would help in motivating all the other team members, encouraging them for future work, and completing the work appropriately. Discriminating people on the basis of liking, gender, or whether you know someone or not is completely absurd for the qualities of a good team leader. Individuals in interracial relationships often are accused of entering such unions for less than honorable reasons. This review of the myths that shroud interracial couples indicate that romance across the color line remains a source of stigma. Interracial Means Black And White Arguably the biggest myth about interracial couples is that such pairings always involve a white person and a person of color. Interracial couples consisting of two people who belong to racial minority groups are largely overlooked in the mainstream culture. This is likely because discussions of race in general still are based on a black-white paradigm. Nonetheless, interracial couples of color have been the inspiration for films such as â€Å"Mississippi Masala,† in which Denzel Washington plays a character who falls in love with a South Asian woman. Moreover, the comedy â€Å"Harold Kumar Go to White Castle† paired the Korean-American protagonist up with a Latina love interest. Of course, a number of such couples exist in real life as well. People in Interracial Relationships Never Date Their Own Race Strangers often assume that people in interracial relationships have long dated exclusively outside of their race. It’s undeniable that some people display strong preferences for a particular race. Indian-American actress Mindy Kaling, for example, essentially told Us Magazine that she favors white men.   â€Å"I embarrassingly love blond men - hot pinups like Chris Evans and Chris Pine,† she said. â€Å"I feel like people expect me to have an edgy choice, like Justin Theroux, and I’m just like, ‘Nope! I want Captain America!’† In addition, Kaling has been called out for casting solely white men as her love interests on her show â€Å"The Mindy Project.† Unlike Mindy Kaling, however, many people in interracial relationships don’t have a type. They have dated both intra-racially and interracially and just happened to end up with partners who don’t share their ethnic background. They don’t have a pattern of choosing solely white mates or solely Asian mates or Hispanic ones. Singer Rihanna,  journalist Lisa Ling and actor Eddie Murphy are all examples of people whove dated both within and outside of their racial group.  Ã‚   If you don’t know the dating history of a person in an interracial relationship, don’t assume that they have no interest in dating members of their own race. Minorities in Interracial Romances Hate Themselves People of color who date interracially are often accused of suffering from self-hatred. While some minorities date whites in particular for social status, many minorities who date across the color line are proud of their heritage. They’re not dating interracially to dilute their bloodlines. They simply felt a spark with someone who doesn’t share their racial background. This doesn’t mean that they don’t identify with their minority group and are ashamed to be part of that group. A number of African Americans who married interracially have fiercely fought for civil rights and the uplift of their racial group, including the abolitionist Frederick Douglass, playwright Lorraine Hansberry, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and actor-singer Harry Belafonte. Whites in Interracial Marriages Are Rebelling While minorities in interracial relationships are often accused of hating themselves, whites in such relationships are often accused of rebelling. They didn’t marry interracially because they truly loved their spouse, outsiders say, but because they wanted to get back at their parents. Are there white people who bring home a person of another race because they know it will drive their parents crazy? Probably. But it’s unlikely that these people would have a sustained relationship with someone of a different race just to spite their parents, let alone marry interracially to do so.  Ã‚   Minorities in Interracial Relationships Date Down It’s a common belief that people of color in interracial relationships, especially with whites, date down rather than up. In other words, their partners aren’t particularly attractive, moneyed or educated. They are not dating â€Å"catches.† The rationale here is that whites enjoy so much privilege in society that minorities who pursue romances with them aren’t exactly picky. Any white person will do. This, of course, is a sweeping generalization. Unless the only criterion a person has in a mate is that she be white, it’s doubtful that this generalization applies. Rosie Cuison Villazor, a law professor and editor of Loving v. Virginia in a Post-Racial World, has found that the income of interracial couples tends to vary by the racial makeup of the couple. â€Å"Forty-two percent of white men/Asian women married couples both went to college, compared with 20 percent of white/Hispanic married couples and 17 percent of white/black married couples,† she found. â€Å"A look at earnings also reveals racial and gender differences: the median combined income of white/Asian couples is $70,952, compared with $53,187 for white/black married couples.† The fact that black-white couples earn less than white-Asian couples reflects the fact that blacks generally earn less than whites in the United States, while Asians tend to earn as much or more money than whites. Given this and the fact people of all races are more likely to romance those who share their economic and education background, it’s inaccurate to suggest that minorities in interracial relationships marry or date down.
